Bandon and the Sweet Secret Shop I Discovered
Bandon is a quaint town on the Central Coast of Oregon. Famous for its sand dunes and renowned golf courses, Bandon also has several other things it's celebrated for that are far less mentioned—but not to worry! I'm here to report some of the highlights I found during my weekend in Bandon.
Rugged Coastline and Incredible Tide Pools
So many travelers come to witness the waves crashing along giant sea stacks, and this coastline is heavily decorated with these massive natural giants. At the right time of day and tide, these areas can provide amazing tide pool discoveries. There are endless opportunities to explore, along with plenty of chances to spot local wildlife.
The Charm of Old Town Bandon
Old Town Bandon seems to be the heart of the community. Did you know this is the Cranberry Capital of the West? Complete with an annual cranberry festival, the town is full of character. There was local art everywhere, beautiful waterfront views, unique shops, and inviting restaurants.
This Old Town felt different from others I've visited. The shops were all so intentional. Every store wasn't just a place to browse—it felt welcoming, warm, and had that extra je ne sais quoi that makes you want to linger a little longer.
A Chocolate Experience I'll Never Forget
One shop that will forever be on my "must stop in" list is Coastal Mist Chocolate Boutique.
Very lovely store, and right up my alley. I've visited quite a few tea and chocolate shops over the years, so naturally there was only one thing to do—try the chocolate.
Apricot Amaretto.
I'll admit, the shiny bronze marble finish was what originally caught my eye. But this chocolate stopped me dead in my tracks.
The moment I took my first bite of the apricot chocolate, everything else disappeared. I was completely submerged in every flavor dancing across my taste buds.
True bliss.
The Talent Behind the Chocolate
I had to know who was responsible for creating something this incredible.
Looking up, I noticed several framed photos on the wall and wandered over to investigate. That's when I learned about Kevin Shaw, the incredibly talented chef and owner behind this amazing little chocolate haven.
His award-winning chocolates are truly unforgettable.
Needless to say, I'll be visiting this shop every time I pass through Bandon.
If you find yourself exploring the Oregon Coast, don't pass this stop up. It's one of those places that turns an ordinary weekend getaway into a memorable experience.
